UFC’s Fight of the Year (so far)

UFC’s best fight of the year

The first half of the year is in the books and UFC.com writer Thomas Gerbasi has made his top five picks for best fights and best fighters of 2007 thus far.

Best UFC fights of the year so far:
5.  Michael Bisbing vs. Elvis Sinosic - At UFC 70 Elvis rocked Bisbing with a knee and sunk in a tight kimura only to have Bisbing escape, reverse, and ground and pound his way to a TKO.
4.  Tim Sylvia vs. Randy Couture - A true David vs. Goliath match up for the Heavyweight title that proved Randy really is “Captain America.”
3.  Roger Huerta vs. Leonard Garcia - Almost non-stop action  from start to finish with the Matador winning a lopsided decision.
2.  Tyson Griffin vs. Clay Guida - This fight UFC 72 could convince even the most ignorant MMA fan that fights on the ground are exciting.
1.  Spencer Fisher vs. Sam Stout - The welterweight version of Stephen Bonnar vs. Forrest Griffin says it all.

Top UFC fighters of the year so far:
5.   Matt Serra - Takes out a fighter many had picked as the best pound for pound mixed martial artist out there in George St. Pierre.  Siliences the critics and becomes Welterweight Champion.
4.   Gabriel Gonzaga - A KO kick to the head of Mirco Cro Cop?  Sweet irony!  Solidifies title shot.
3.   Anderson Silva -   Two title defenses, two fights ended by ref stoppage.  The Spider shows he’s one of the most versitile fighters in the business.
2.  Randy Couture - Kicked off the “year of the upsets” by out thinking, out hustling Tim Sylvia
1.  Quinton Jackson - Two wins in the cage this year.  Beats long time UFC champ Liddell by TKO for the second time.

There you have it, Thomas Gerbasi’s picks.  For the full story on UFC.com, you can read the article here
