Kenny Florian vs. Din Thomas at UFC Fight Night 11
It has been confirmed on Kenny Florian’s website that he will be replacing Spencer Fisher at Fight Night 11 and will face Din Thomas. Fisher had to withdrawl from the bout due to a staph infection as he posted on his MySpace page:
“Hey everybody, I just want all of you to know that I am out of my fight in September with Din due to a staph infection in my knee.”
Here is what Florian, who just fought a month ago at UFC 73, had to say about the recent announcement:
“Yeah, I am. I just signed a contract today. We got word that he [Spencer Fisher] may be out with staph. That’s a fight I want. I think Din is one of best fighters in the world. He’s got a great name and has been one of the guys I’ve been looking up to. To be the best you’ve got to beat the best and that’s what Din is.
Actually the schedule was to fight in November. I just got back from Afghanistan and it came as a surprise to me. This will be my third fight in five months. Most fighters do that in a year. But I’m hungry right now. I’m a fighter. I wanted to fight. I talked with my camp and they all agreed I could do it. I’m in a situation where I’m healthy and can do that.”
