Brandon Vera Resigns with UFC
It’s official, undefeated heavyweight Brandon “The Truth” Vera will be returning to the octagon. Vera burst on to the scene with the UFC in 2005 and over the course of 13 month year won four straight fights. After his last fight in November of 2006, Brandon and his management had a contract dispute with the UFC which has sidelined him ever since. That dispute has now been settled and Dana White is happy to have him back in an already stacked heavyweight division.
“Brandon Vera is a young, well-rounded, exciting heavyweight who finishes fights in exciting fashion,” said Dana White, UFC President. “I think he brings a lot to the heavyweight mix, and I see him in a position to fight for the heavyweight title in 2008.”
The details of who and when he’ll fight have not been determined, but there are plenty of fighters to be considered. Tim Sylvia, Andre Arlowski, Minotauro” Nogueira, Fabricio Werdum, Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga, Cheick Kongo or Frank Mir are all potential opponents for his return.
“I’m so excited to be back in the UFC,” said Vera. “I have no words to describe the feeling…I realize the UFC heavyweight division is much stronger now, but I like having more challenges, and that just gives me more motivation to train. I feel that when I’m on top of my game, nobody can beat me. I have a plan to become the heavyweight champion, so I’m going to stick to the plan that my management team NCFC and both of my coaches set and win the titles. I want to prove I’m the best for my family, my friends and most of all my fans.”
We at MMA Punch can’t wait to see Vera back in action. All of his UFC fights have ended in TKO or submission with only one of those fights making it past the first round. Side note, his wife is a pretty damn good fighter too. Check her out here.
