Mav’s Owner Wants to Get Involved in MMA
Mark Cuban, former dot com billionaire turned Dallas Maverick’s owner, told CBS Sports that he is interested in getting more involved with mixed martial arts. Currently he is in talks with Fedor Emelianenko’s management team, so it appears that he is pretty serious about all of this.
Cuban has hired MMA veteran Guy Mezger to run the day-to-day operations of his MMA project, and will rely on Mezger to handle tasks such as talent evaluation. “We have already started,” Cuban said. “Our first hire was Guy Mezger, who will be responsible for managing fight cards, attracting and signing fighters.”
When asked how much money will be set aside for the billionaire’s MMA endevours, Cuban responded, “How much (money is invested) will depend on what it takes to be successful,” Cuban said.
Of the UFC, Cuban said, “I love the UFC, I think they do a good job on putting together spectacle-type events. I think, however, that they have focused on branding UFC rather than the fighters themselves.”
