A Look at The Ultimate Fighter 6 Contestants
Yes, we all know that season 6 of The Ultimate Fighters is supposed to be one of the most volatile seasons yet. And we all know that there is plenty of bad blood between welterweight coaches Matt Hughes and Matt Serra. What we don’t know is much about the contestants of The Ultimate Fighter 6. Here is a quick overview of the relatively unknown mixed martial arts fighters who will appear on the television show:
Mac Danzig, 27
MMA record: 17-4-1
Will be the most experienced fighter in the house. Trains at Legends Gym in Los Angeles along side Karo Parisyan and Manny Gamburyan. Most recent fight was a KO loss to Hayato Sakurai at Pride 33.
Joe Scarola, 28
MMA record: 6-0
Scarola is a member of Matt Serra’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Long Island. (we can only hope Hughes picks him for his team)
Matt Arroyo, 24
MMA record: 2-1
Attended the University of Tampa on a baseball scholarship, but by the time he graduated in 2003, had given up baseball and earned a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Roman Mitichyan, 28
MMA record: 8-1
Born in Armenia, moved to LA in 2000 to pursue acting. (not sure if he trains with Karo or Manny who are both from Armenia)
The rest of the cast…
Tommy “Farmboy” Speer, 22
MMA record: 9-1
Made the nationals as a high school wrestler. Grew up helping his family run their crop and dairy farm. (could be this season’s Brad Imes)
George Sotiropoulis, 29
MMA record: 7-2
Growing up in Australia, he took part in Australian rules football, cricket, mountain biking and karate, although MMA is his true passion.
Jared “J-Roc” Rollins, 30
MMA record: 9-3
Studied Jiu-Jitsu under Carlson Gracie at age 22. Competed in the 2002 world championships with just three years of training.
Ben Saunders, 24
MMA record: 4-0-2
Trains with American Top Team, and began studying Tae Kwon Do at age 13.
Dorian Price, 29
MMA record: 8-2
Earned an MBA from Ohio State University while training for MMA. (his parents must be disappointed)
Billy Miles, 29
MMA record: 2-1
He’s a youth correctional counselor in California. Took up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training after becoming a fan of Tito Ortiz in UFC.
Troy Mandaloniz, 27
MMA record: 3-1
A Childhood friend of UFC fighter B.J. Penn, began grappling in fourth grade with the guidance of Penn’s father. Now trains at Mark Laimon’s Cobra Kai and Team Couture. (looking forward to seeing his ground game, hopefully he has a chin)
Paul Georgieff, 24
MMA record: 7-1
Currently pursuing a masters degree in structural engineering at the University of Wisconsin. Made his MMA debut in 2002.
Richie Hightower, 25
MMA record: 7-1
At age 21, weighed 265 pounds and was a smoker and drinker. Lost nearly 100 pounds after beginning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training in Phoenix, and no longer smokes or drinks. (Lost 100lbs, sounds like another Phoenix fighter, Joe Riggs)
John Kolosci, 32
MMA record: 8-4
At 32, he’s the oldest fighter in the competition. Living in the TUF house took him away from his fiancée and 11-year-old daughter for six weeks.
Blake Bowman, 25
MMA record: 4-3
Weighed 240 pounds in college, but after meeting TUF 5 alum Cole Miller and being inspired by Miller’s work ethic, dropped 70 pounds and entered MMA.
Daniel Barrera, 26
MMA record: 1-0
Wrestled his way to the state championships in high school, took up boxing in the Air Force, and amassed a respectable 15-3 boxing record.
