Couture the Television Actor

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Randy Couture - The Unit television showTomorrow Randy Couture (yes, he’s everywhere these days) will be making a special appearance on CBS’s television show The Unit. I caught the episode preview on TV the other night and they hyped up Couture’s special appearance pretty good. Unfortunately the CBS website doesn’t have a trailer for the upcoming episode, which makes zero sense to me. One would think it would be easy to post a simple video preview of a show’s upcoming episodes to help gain viewership . Whatever.

Anyway, Randy will be a guest actor on the The Unit tomorrow (Tuesday). The only source I could find that even mentiones that Couture will be on the show was on IMDB.

Ken Shamrock Agrees with Couture

Monday, October 29th, 2007

It doesn’t come to much of a surprise that Ken Shamrock wasn’t overly joyed with his relationship with UFC. It seems like the guy is always bitching about something. However, he is echoing some of the same feelings brought to the surface by Couture.  Last week MMA Junkie interviewed Shamrock who had a lot of things to say about the number one fight organization in the world. And his thoughts on Couture resigning?

“It didn’t surprise me because of what they did to me. I basically sold my body to them. I mean I fought hurt all the time — and I got paid, of course… (UFC management) seems to think that the UFC is everything and that it doesn’t have to respect anybody. The guys who built this sport are thrown outside — the guys who were there before Dana White got there. Dana’s not a fighter, and he’s not a tough guy, and he walks around talking to people, treating people with disrespect, talks about people’s managers because he doesn’t like them. Randy Couture was an absolute gentleman in the sport. Myself, and Royce Gracie, and other people who developed the sport before Dana White ever got in there, he treats them like dog crap… The fans need to understand that the money that they’re putting into the UFC and spending is going into Dana White’s pocket and the Fertittas’ pocket. They made billions of dollars on this company, and they’re selling souls.”

Check out the rest of the interview here. It’s pretty lengthy but covers a lot of good stuff including the latest with the IFL.

Mrs. Randy Couture Speaks Out

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

I’ve never seen a topic in MMA have such longevity, but here we all are, still talking about Couture leaving the UFC. Until now the focus has been on Randy Couture and Dana White, but the other day Randy’s wife (Kim) had a few words of her own to share. On the Xtreme Couture Blog, Kim weighs in with her own thoughts about Randy’s career and her own personal dealings with the UFC. Let’s just say, there is no love loss here as Kim sets the record straight.

Before I married Randy and we started dating three years ago he made me aware of his frustrations with the UFC and all of the uphill battles he has been fighting. I’ve witnessed some of them firsthand. Dana and the Fertittas, in particular, have never been anything but nice and genuine to me. It’s not a personal issue with them, but my experience with the organization. When anyone from our staff has called to ask for anything, be it tickets to a fight, rooms or something that was very important to myself and Randy like the Xtreme Couture GI Foundation charity fundraiser, the answer was always no or no response at all. We could list a lot of petty little things, but that’s what it is - petty. So no need to list them. Every time we asked them for anything they acted like we were bothering them, unless they needed something from Randy; then their attitude was different. Dana’s statement that he offered me a job when Randy asked him for it is silly. I need another job like I need a hole in the head. I offered my help when Shannon Knapp left the UFC as the celebrity interviewer because I had experience doing interviews before. I was excited to be part of the organization and to be working alongside Randy. (more…)

Do the “MMA Girls” Know how to Pick Winners?

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

No so much, at least if you look at their picks for the last four UFC’s.

There’s not much in the way of big MMA news today, so I thought I’d go a bit random.

For those not familar with the MMA Girls (Joanne and Lauren), they are two hardcore (and attractive) mixed martial arts fans who became popular on the Internet by starting a MySpace page for fans a year ago. On their page, they featured videos of the two of them teaching different grappling techniques.  Needless to say, two cute blondes rolling around in each other’s guard got a lot of attention (you can check out one of these videos here). Soon the video clips went viral and were all over YouTube.

The next step for the MMA Girls was to get into the prediction business. Them seemed to do a pretty good job in the video techniques department I thought I’d research a little bit of their prediction skills. As lovely as these ladies are, it turns out their prediciction capabilities aren’t going to make them rich in Vegas.

Over the last 4 UFC’s, the blondes have amassed a record of 7 wins with 11 losses (the Elvis Sinosic of predicitions). The girls went 0-5 at UFC 76 by picking Thiago, Diego, Kazahiro, Shogun, and Liddell to win. However I will give them some credit as Liddell and Shogun were huge upsets.

They slightly redeemed themselves by going 2-2 at UFC 77 correctly picking Silva and Bonnar but incorrectly picking going with Vera and Kalib. Records for UFC 75 (2-2) and UFC 74 (3-2).

Who knows, maybe if I went back further and looked at their last 10 UFC predictions they would have a winning record. This post is nothing against the girls, I dig them. I “investigated” at their prediction history purely out of curiousity and slight boredom.

You can check out their website here.

Randy Couture Press Conf. II

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Here is a follow up to yesterday’s posting of the Randy Couture press conference video. Here the camp fields a few questions from reporters. He basically reiterates the points he made earlier, about fighting Fedor, his beef with the UFC, and his desire to continue with MMA. If you have time, I recommend watching the video from yesterday (12 mins). If you don’t have time, this one is 4mins.

Make sure to check out RawVegas.tv for other entertaining video clips covering not just MMA, but the entire vegas scene.
