UFC 80 Card Taking Shape

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Today the UFC announced two more matches that will take place on the UFC 80 fight card, bringing the total number of confirmed fights up to six. Aside from the Joe Stevenson vs. BJ Penn fight and the return of Gabriel Gonzaga, there isn’t much on this card that has me too pumped. So far there are three fighters who will be making their very first appearance in the Octagon while four of the seven returing UFC fighters are coming off of losses. UFC 80 will be held in England (why do they always seem to get the crappy fight cards) and the line up thus far is as follows:

BJ Penn vs. Joe Stevenson
Wilson Gouveia Vs. Jason Lambert
Gabriel Gonzaga Vs. Fabricio Werdum
Per Eklund Vs. Sam Stout
James Lee Vs. Alessio Sakara
Paul Kelly Vs. Paul Taylor

Internet Geek Learns MMA

Friday, November 30th, 2007

VBS.tv has put together a series of videos called Balls Deep where they basically take their office nerd Thomas “Baby Ball” Morton and throw him into uncomfortable and uncommon situations giving viewers an in depth view into people they normally would not know anything about. And definitely have some laughs at Thomas’ expense.

For their latest video episode, they decided to send Thomas into the world of mixed martial arts. Over a nine part series, Thomas will train with MMA fighters and follow the journey of amateur fighter Matthew Ruskin. Here in part one you’ll see the office geek train with some guys at Gracie Academy in New York. As you’ll see, he’s got a long way to go…

MMA Website of the Week - MMA Playground.com

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

I’ve been addicted to MMA fantasy betting for a while now and wanted to share MMAPlayground.com with everyone.

How does it work? Pretty simple, just sign-up for a free account (they also offer premium accounts with added functionality for a small fee) and start making predictions on the UFC and other big MMA events. There is a “MMA Picks Game” section that utilizes a points system to reward correct predictions. Points are awarded based on picking the winner, the round, and the ending details (KO, Submission, Decision, etc.).

You can also partake in the “MMA Wagering Game” where you are giving a fantasy bankroll that allows you to bet on any fighter(s) for a given event. The Game even includes Vegas style odds.

Best part, prizes. Two prizes are given out after each UFC event including $100 to the user who earns the most points from the picks game and another $100 to the user with the largest fantasy bankroll from the UFC wagering game.

In addition to playing the fantasy games you can compete on a more personal level with friends by forming a “fight camp” on the website. Each “fight camp” comes with its own messageboard and scoreboard, enabling friends to have some friendly trash talk while competing head-to-head in a private area of the website.

Get in on the action before The Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale and UFC 79. Sign up HERE.

Two More Idiots Test Positive for Roids

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

What the F is wrong with these guys? Do they not understand that the state athletic commission does mandatory, not random, drug testing for each MMA event? Do they think it is easy to fool the system? Have they not read the list of banned substances? I just don’t get it.

Two more MMA fighters have been suspended in California due to testing positive for banned substances. Both Alexander Crispim and Dennis Hallman, who fought in Strikeforce on November 16th, have been suspended for a year and each fined $2,500 by the California State Athletic Commission.

Wanderlei Silva Loves Taco Bell

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Here is another installment of RawVegas.tv’s Road to UFC 79. Wanderlei doesn’t talk too much about his up coming match with Liddell (unfortunately), but instead talks about his fellow training partner Shogun Rua and his recent training partner Randy Couture. And how is the Axe Murder adjusting to life in the states? He says his favorite food is Taco Bell, so sounds like he’s fitting in quite well.

Sokoudjou Talks UFC 79

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Some guy from MMA Hawaii caught up with Rameau Sokoudjou at the Team Quest training center in California. The interviewer is a bit awkward, but he does get Sokoudjou to predict that he will defeat his UFC 79 opponent Lyoto Machida through the use of “Jungle Kung-Fu.”
