Mac Danzig The Photographer

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Some episodes of The Ultimate Fighter I think Mac is a really interesting guy and a deep thinker who takes the fight game very seriously. Other times I think he’s a moody pain in the ass. Today I’m thinking Danzig is a pretty damn talented individual. Besides being impressive in the cage, Mac is also an impresive photographer. After browsing through his photography collection, I have a new found respect for the guy. Here are just a few of his photos. Check out the rest on his photography site. I actually didn’t believe this was the mma fighter Mac Danzig, but instead some other Mac Danzig. A check on his blog proved that this was indeed his work.

The Making of UFC’s $2,500 Book

UFC’s Book - Octagon

The UFC has released Octagon, a book consisting of an amazing collection of images taken by photographer Kevin Lynch. The book is big, 800 pages and almost 2 feet tall and wide. The price tag is even bigger, $2,500. This sounds crazy, but then again there are those people who pay thousands of dollars for cage-side tickets.

Octagon has its own website loaded with info. One of the most interesting pieces of the site is the video interview with Lynch where he provides insight into the shooting of the book. He talks about what it is like to photograph these guys, before and after their fights. He even says that he can sometimes tell who is going to win the fight during the pre-fight photo-shoot just by the look in their eyes. The video is about 5 minutes, but definitely worth watching. Unfortunately there isn’t a direct link to the video as the entire site is in Flash. However, just go to the site and then click the “Making Of” tab and then “Video.”

Images of Kalib Starnes’ Nasty Gash

Monday, November 26th, 2007

In an interview with RawVegas.TV, Kalib Starnes discusses his loss to Alan Belcher at UFC 77. Check out the video, there are several times they show the massive cut Kalib incurred during the bout. It’s reminiscent of the infamous Marvin Eastman gash from UFC 43.

Maybe this is just my opinion, but Starnes seems to lack the heart of a champion. Remember when he quit in the middle of his fight on The Ultimate Fighter due to a rib injury? And now he basically quit the fight with Belcher. Yes it was a stoppage by the doctor, but he admits that when the doctor asked him if he had any trouble seeing he told him he was having some trouble. I think a lot of fighters would have shown more heart and lied knowing that a stoppage could occur.

Rumored Ultimate Fight Night 12 Card

Burkman vs Swick

Until I get word from the UFC directly, I’m usually hesitant to report any rumored fights. In my experience, most of these fights fall through and never happen. However, MMA Mania has posted the Ultimate Fight Night 12 fight card and labeled it as “exclusive.” Maybe they know something I do not. The card looks intriguing enough that I thought it was worthy of sharing. The event isn’t until Jan. 23rd so we know a lot can/will change, however the Swick vs. Burkman fight would be a treat and the return of Corey Hill would be exciting.

Mike Swick (10-2) vs. Josh Burkman (9-4)
Corey Hill (1-0) vs. TBA
Thiago Tavares (13-1) vs. Michihiro Omigawa (4-5)
Kurt Pellegrino (10-3) vs. Alberto Crane (8-1)
Nate Diaz (7-2) vs. Alvin Robinson (9-2)
Patrick Cote (11-4) vs. Drew McFedries (6-2)

TUF Finale Fight Card Update

Monday, November 26th, 2007

As of last week, there was only one official fight for this card listed on UFC.com. A check today shows that they have added a few other match-ups to the card. The Ultimate Fighter Finale will take place in Vegas on Dec. 8th and will be shown on Spike TV.

Roger Huerta vs. Glay Guida (Main Event)

Jared Rollins vs. John Koppenhaver

Troy Mandaloniz vs. Richie Hightower

Roman Mitichyan vs. Dorian Price

Paul Georgieff vs. Jonathan Goulet

Roman Mitichyan is the guy who broke his arm at the very beginning of the season. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action, especially against fellow hot-head Dorian Price.

Chuck LidDELL TV Commercial

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

This holiday season Chuck Liddell is pitching Dell computers to the masses. Check out the sweet commercial below. What the hell does the former UFC champ have to do with computers? Does Liddell’s endorsement of Dell make the computer any more desirable.
