Who will Chuck fight in September?
This was posed to the president of the UFC, Dana White, in an interview that appeared on ESPN.com. His response is somewhat cryptic but very intriguing:
The fight is going to be in Atlanta, Georgia—that’s something we haven’t said publicly yet. There’s something no one else has heard. You have no idea some of the stuff that we have planned. I’m going to make an announcement next week that is going to blow people’s minds. That deal is done, but my employees don’t even know yet. I’m renting out a place next Thursday and I’m going to tell them. Then we’ll make the announcement later that day. It’s an indicator of where this business is going over the next five years.
It’s a solid interview by ESPN and I give them props for pushing Dana on a few of the issues facing mixed martial arts. Amongst some of the more interesting points, the interview indicates:
- Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra will likely happen
- BJ Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre might happen
- Georges St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva not likely to happen
- Urijah Faber is too small to move up to 155lbs
- The UFC has a roster of 180 fighters
- More than 75% of those fighters make more than $50k
