Cung Le Added to Strikeforce Card

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Cung Le, arguable one of the best all around strikers in the world, has been added to the Strikeforce “Four Men Enter, One Man Survives” card on November 16th in San Jose. Le (4-0) will face The Ultimate Fighter and UFC vet Sam Morgan (18-8).

Of his upcoming fifth mixed martial arts fight, the famed kickboxer Le said, “I just can’t wait to get back in the cage. I think the fight with Tony definitely proved that I have the ability to be a force in mixed martial arts. Being able to fight on your feet is just as important as being able to fight on the ground in this sport because the fight starts standing up. My ground game is still evolving but, as far as stand up goes, I feel I’m one of the strongest fighters out there.”

Cung’s ground game has yet to be tested, but like he said, the fight starts on your feet. Even though he is a kickboxer by nature, he does have some slick judo throws in his arsenal and is tough to take down. Check out his highlight reel.

Also on the Strikeforce card:
Trevor Prangley (16-4), Falaniko Vitale (24-7), Yuki Sasaki (21-13-1), and Jorge Santiago (14-7) in the four-man tournament.
Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello (23-9) vs. Alistair “The Demolition Man” Overeem (25-11) for the Heavyweight Title

New UFC 78 Poster is Boring

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Now that the rumored Oritz vs. Evans rematch is officially scrapped, the UFC has released the official poster for UFC 78 headlined by Michael Bisping vs. Rashad Evans.  What can I say about the poster?  It’s pretty crappy.  The UFC design team has put together some killer event websites, really raising the bar.  This poster is about as basic as they come, Photoshop 101.  Maybe they will put out a revised version as we get closer to the event.

UFC 78 Presale - BFD

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Today the UFC announced that members of the UFC Fight Club will be able to purchase tickets for UFC 78 “Validation” tomorrow at 7PM/PT while the rest of the masses will have to wait until October 6th.  What bugs me about this is that the UFC has not released an official fight card for the event that will take place in New Jersey.  If you view their website, you’ll see that they haven’t announced a single fight for UFC 78.  Secondly, the rumored main event is Tito Ortiz vs. Rashad Evans II.  How do you “validate” that worthy of a main event?  With five different weight classes one would think that they would be able to drum up at least one title fight.  Maybe they will announce a fight card soon and it will kick ass and I’ll be left eating crow.  Until then, here is the star-studded rumored UFC 78 fight card:

Rashad Evans vs. Tito Ortiz
Karo Parisyan vs. Hector Lombard
Frankie Edgar vs. Spencer Fisher
Ed Herman vs. Dave Terrell
Akihiro Gono vs. Tamdan McCrory
Joe Lauzon vs. Jason Reinhardt

Looks more like an Ultimate Fight Night line up than a PPV event to me. And if you are just pumped that the UFC is coming to New Jersey and want to get a jump on the rest with presale purchase, you can buy tickets on October 4th with the code:  ROGAN

Strikeforce at the Playboy Mansion Saturday

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Strikefore MMA event at Playboy MansionThis Saturday, the world famous Playboy Mansion will host its first ever MMA event. The Strikeforce card will be headlined by their undefeated lightweight champion Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez (12-0) who will be taking on former Shooto fighter Tetsuji Kato. Although the fight card won’t be as stacked as your typical UFC event, the fact that the show will be held on Playboy grounds will bring a new level of exposure to mixed martial arts as there should be plenty of celebs and other influential people in attendance.

Those fortunate enough to attend will be treated to an array of amenities including a buffet style, gourmet dinner, top-shelf, open bar, and a wine tasting party featuring the spirits of several gold medal wineries. Various Playboy Playmates will be on hand to partake in all activities.

Other fights on the card include UFC vets Joe “Diesel” Riggs vs. Eugene “The Wolf” Jackson, Josh “The Punk” Thomson vs. Adam Lynn, TUF alum Bobby Southworth vs. Bill “The Butcher” Mahood and Daniel Puder vs. Richard Dalton.
