Fight Results - UFC 79 Nemesis

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

Overall it was a very solid night of action. Only one televised bout went the distance (Liddell and Silva). Pride fighters had terrible showings. The overly hyped former Pride fighter Sokoudjou was total out-classed and dominated by Lyoto Machida. And highly touted brawler Soa Palelei looked silly against B-level heavyweight Eddie Sanchez. GSP, well he just looked awesome as he easily handled former UFC champion Matt Hughes. Complete results:

- Georges St-Pierre def. Matt Hughes by Submission (Arm Lock) at 4:54 in the 2nd round by arm bar
- Chuck Liddell def. Wanderlei Silva by Unanimous Decision at 5:00 in the 3rd round
- Lyoto Machida def. Rameau Sokoudjou by Submission (Choke) at 4:20 in the 2nd round by arm triangle
- Rich Clementi def. Melvin Guillard by Submission (Choke) at 4:40 in the 1st round by rear naked choke
- Eddie Sanchez def. Soa Palelei by Technical Knock Out at 3:24 in the 3rd round
- James Irvin def. Luiz Cane by Disqualification at 1:51 in the 1st round
- Manny Gamburyan def. Nate Mohn by Submission (Leg Lock) at 1:31 in the 1st round by ankle lock
- Dean Lister def. Jordan Radev by Unanimous Decision at 5:00 in the 3rd round
- Roan Carneiro def. Tony DeSouza by Technical K
- Mark Bocek def. Doug Evans by Unanimous Decision at 5:00 in the 3rd round

Kenflo on Top at Ultimate Fight Night 11

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Kenny Florian wins at UFN 11Kenny Florian is a self proclaimed “fight finisher” and he lived up to his moniker tonight by stopping Din Thomas in the first round via rear naked choke.  Although it appeared that Din injuried himself as he went in for the takedown, nothing should be taken away from Kenflo as he looked solid.  Of note, and not televised, Gray Maynard KO’d Joe Veres in 9 seconds of round one.

And Still UFC Light Heavyweight Champion

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

UFC 75 Quinton JacksonUFC 75, Champion vs. Champion, is in the books and the UFC champion won a decision over the Pride Champion. Quinton Jackson successfully defended his UFC light heavyweight title with a unanimous-decision victory over Pride champion Dan Henderson in London. The fight was a bit lackluster in comparison to Rampage’s and Henderson’s most recent fights where the each scored KOs. Instead, Jackson employed a more methodical approach in controlling the majority of the time on the ground and was more effective with punches down the stretch. Judges scored the bout 49-46 twice and 48-47 for the champion, who improved to 28-6. UFC announcer Mike Goldberg stated time and time again that this was to determine who was the best 205lb fighter in the world. Mike, you may want to consider that there is this guy out there named Shogun who dominated the reigning champ not too long ago.

Complete UFC 75 fight results:

Quinton Jackson def. Dan Henderson (unanimous decision)
Cheick Kongo def. Mirko Filipovic (unanimous decision)
Michael Bisping def. Matt Hammill (split decision)
Houston Alexander def. Alessio Sakara (1st Rd TKO)
Marcus Davis def. Paul Taylor (1st Rd submission)
Thiago Silva def. Tomasz Drwal (2nd Rd TKO)
Gleison Tibau def. Terry Etim (unanimous decision)

Art of War 3 a Success

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

It appears that Texans like their mixed martial arts, filling the areana with 7,500 MMA fans. Big non-MMA names in appearance included former Dallas Cowboys Tony Romo, Michael Irvin and Tony Dorsett made it out to cheer on the fighters.  Of the 10 fights, 8 of them ended via TKO or submission.

In the main event last night we saw Pedro “The Rock” Rizzo melt down the Snowman in three rounds, scoring the TKO.  The biggest surprise of the night is that ex-UFCer submission wiz Jeremy Horn was tapped by Brazilian Jorge Santiago via triangle choke. Although dominated early in his match against Mario Rinaldi, UFC vet Ron Waterman was able to get his hands flying to secure the win via strikes.

Complete fight card results:

-Pedro Rizzo def. Jeff Monson TKO rd 3
