Couture the Television Actor

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Randy Couture - The Unit television showTomorrow Randy Couture (yes, he’s everywhere these days) will be making a special appearance on CBS’s television show The Unit. I caught the episode preview on TV the other night and they hyped up Couture’s special appearance pretty good. Unfortunately the CBS website doesn’t have a trailer for the upcoming episode, which makes zero sense to me. One would think it would be easy to post a simple video preview of a show’s upcoming episodes to help gain viewership . Whatever.

Anyway, Randy will be a guest actor on the The Unit tomorrow (Tuesday). The only source I could find that even mentiones that Couture will be on the show was on IMDB.

Josh Burkman Smoked Bud and Did Roids?

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

Josh Burkman UFC FighterThis one kind of came to me as a surprise. In an interview with a Canadian newspaper, Burkman openly admitted to drug abuse. He said this about what his life was like when he tried out for season of of The Ultimate Fighter:

“I’m not one to lie. I probably failed every single test they gave me,” Burkman told The Canadian Press from Salt Lake City. “I was smoking weed, I was drinking, I was out of shape so I took steroids. I had a really extreme, crazy personality because I was kind of lost. I didn’t really truly know what I wanted in my life. I just knew that I liked to fight.

“Me being caught with those things was the single best thing that ever happened in my life, because it really truly made me look at myself and what I really wanted. That’s what helped me straighten my life out and get more focused.”

The UFC told him they would take him back if he cleaned up his act. Burkman did and made Season 2 of the show in 2005.

Matt Serra’s Secrets to Winning a Bar Fight

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Matt Serra and his lovely wifeUFC welterweight champion Matt “Da Terra” Serra lends his expertise to Mens Health Magazine by explaining how to win a bar fight.  I’ve never seen a bar fight won via armbar, but I’m willing to hear Serra out.

Rule one for Serra, avoid the fight.  Where he’s from Serra says, “the loser goes to the hospital but the winner goes to jail.” Ok, but what if it is inevitable Mr. Jui Jitsu Master?

1. Since there’s a dispute, there’s probably a lot of yapping going on. Get the guy talking, Serra says — about model trains, you, the stock market, doesn’t matter.

2. As he’s talking, “Go hard with an elbow or fist in the chin.”

3. Finish it fast. Hit first and hit hard. “That’s the fastest way to win,” Serra says. “There are no rules out in the street. And if you’re a nice guy, you’ll wake up in a hospital.”

You hearing that Matt Hughes? Elbow to the chin for the win.

Homage to Randy Couture

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

On the heels for the big announcement that Randy Couture is walking away from the UFC and likely retire from all of MMA, I wanted to grab a couple of videos that highlight the champ.  Interesting Couture’s news made the home page of Yahoo today.  Wow, mixed martial arts has come a long long way.

Here Randy Couture retires a bunch of “Joes” on the TV show Joes vs. Pros. His appearance reminds me of what a class act his is. Fast forward to the 5 minute mark to get to Randy’s event.

Cole Miller has a T-Shirt?

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Cole Miller TShirtI guess any MMA fighter can get his name and mug on a tshirt these days.  I came across a Cole Miller tshirt today.  If I saw someone wearing the shirt I’d think, “what a dork.”  But what the hell, more power to the guy. He’s fought in the UFC and now has his name on some merchandise.  This groovy shirt can be yours for the low low price of $18, which is a fraction of the cost for an Affliction tshirt.  However, who would be cooler, the guy sporting the Rampage Jackson shirt or the guy next to him representing Cole Miller?
