CB Dollaway Admits He Tapped

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Geez, after the bitching and moaning this guy did after his loss to Amir Sadollah at last night’s The Ultimate Fighter Finale, it’s a bit of a surprise how easily he admitted to tapping post fight. Obviously he had a chance to look at the video and knew there was no use in denying it further. UFC.com has a short video clip of CB getting interviewed after the fight where he says he made a mistake and needs to learn some more jiu-jitsu.

Matt Hughes Calls Matt Arroyo a Chicken

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Ok, maybe not literally, but it is very much implied. You be the judge. Here is a clip from Hughes’ blog regarding Arroyo’s withdrawal from his fight with Mac Danzig:

“One thing we did find out from Dana later on was that the doctor found nothing wrong with Arroyo’s rib. When Dana told us, he was ticked. So I don’t know were Matt Arroyo came up with the cracked rib thing; but the doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with him. My idea is that he didn’t want to fight Mac and that was his way out and you can tell from his interviews that he didn’t want to fight Mac.”

I’m going to have to agree with Hughes on this one. Arroyo definitely looked like he was missing the eye of the tiger and could have sucked it up, especially considering what an amazing opportunity he was given. I also agree with Hughes on his assessment of George who looked anything but impressive with his win over Richie Hightower… (more…)

TUF Finale Fight Card Update

Monday, November 26th, 2007

As of last week, there was only one official fight for this card listed on UFC.com. A check today shows that they have added a few other match-ups to the card. The Ultimate Fighter Finale will take place in Vegas on Dec. 8th and will be shown on Spike TV.

Roger Huerta vs. Glay Guida (Main Event)

Jared Rollins vs. John Koppenhaver

Troy Mandaloniz vs. Richie Hightower

Roman Mitichyan vs. Dorian Price

Paul Georgieff vs. Jonathan Goulet

Roman Mitichyan is the guy who broke his arm at the very beginning of the season. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action, especially against fellow hot-head Dorian Price.

My Problem With Serra as a Cornerman

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Matt Serra

Let me first start by saying that overall I think Matt Serra has done a great job as a coach on this season’s The Ultimate Fighter. He’s a solid motivator, he’s positive (most of the time), and his team respects him. He is a bit hung up on Matt Hughes and has made this a little more about the coaches rather than the fighters. Yes it sucks to have to lose one of your guys and send him over to team Hughes, but have you ever thought that getting coaching from a wrestler like Hughes could benefit one of your fighters? After all, don’t you want the best for your fighters? It’s not as if sending one of your guys to team Hughes will make him a worse fighter.

But my biggest gripe is Serra’s cornering method. I do appreciate that he is very encouraging, but damn, how many times does he have to tell a fighter, “breathe” and “take your time.” Are these fighters so novice that they don’t remember to breath properly? And what’s up with the constant ”take your time.” There are plenty of times in a fight where you are given an opening that you have to jump on, not hesitate at all. Or if you mount a guy, it isn’t always necessary to slowly and methodically ground and pound. You score mount, what’s wrong with unleashing a flurry of punches?

I guess “taking your time” is why Matt Serra’s previous six fighters (just prior to his win over GSP) all went the distance.

You Want to Get a Hummer from Randy Couture?

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Well, he wants to sell you one. According to his website, the former UFC Champion is auctioning his UFC Hummer on eBay today. I’m not sure what the starting bid will be, but the Hummer has 38,129 miles on it.

It appears that Couture is making a clear statement that there is still bad blood between him and his former employer by ditching the gift. Randy was given the vehicle by the UFC as the coach for season 1 of The Ultimate Fighter.
